چکیده

Background Cardiac nuclear stress perfusion imaging is subject to artifact related to obesity, breast attenuation and diaphragm overlap. These factors are responsible for “false positive” results among patients undergoing evaluation for coronary atherosclerosis, leading to potentially unnecessary invasive coronary arteriography. Cardiac MRI adenosine stress perfusion imaging is unaffected by both obesity and breast tissue attenuation, resulting in sensitivity and specificity rates in excess of 90%. Accordingly, cardiac MRI adenosine stress perfusion imaging may be a more appropriate form of testing for obese patients.

Cardiac MRI stress testing in the reduction of radiation exposure for patients undergoing ischemic evaluation

Background Cardiac diagnostic testing is responsible for a significant portion of non-therapeutic radiation exposure in the United States. The major source of cardiac-related radiation exposure is nuclear based myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Furthermore, a higher radio-isotope dose is necessary for MPI in obese patients, a growing segment of the population. As of January 1, 2014, the Ameri...

Diagnostic Accuracy of Gated-SPECT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging and Exercise Stress Test for Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease

Background and Objective:Accurate diagnosis of CAD using noninvasive procedures is of great importance. The aim of the study is to assess diagnostic accuracy of myocardial perfusion imaging and compare it with exercise stress test in order to decipher a more accurate and cost-effective method for CAD detection. Materials and Methods:Of 430 consecutive patients suspected with CAD, 104 performed...

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Ischemic Heart Disease

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a prime player in the clinical and preclinical detection of ischemic heart disease (IHD) as well in the prognosis assessment by offering a comprehensive approach for all spectrums of coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. The aim of this review is to provide the reader a state-of-the art on how the newest cardiac MRI techniques can be use...

Comparison of dobutamine stress magnetic resonance, adenosine stress magnetic resonance, and adenosine stress magnetic resonance perfusion.

BACKGROUND Dobutamine stress MR (DSMR) is highly accurate for the detection of inducible wall motion abnormalities (IWMAs). Adenosine has a more favorable safety profile and is well established for the assessment of myocardial perfusion. We evaluated the diagnostic value of IWMAs during dobutamine and adenosine stress MR and adenosine MR perfusion compared with invasive coronary angiography. ...
